At first I tried shavings..got really messy fast..pine straw got wet and matted down..now I just sprinkle some sand onto the vinyl floor..keeps the poop from sticking and dries it out..i scoop it up with a flat shovel once a week..I have about 2 inches of sand in the roosting troughs..I sift the poop once a week for compost and change out the sand after about six weeks..i’ve found that sand is cheaper by the ton at the gravel yard..i shovel it into my pickup by hand and a truckload is less than $20.
