A very pretty bird, the silkie is known for its unique feathers. They are goods with children because they can easily withstand being rough handled. They lay only about three eggs, a fair layer, but are great as pets. Their eggs are more of a cream color and are great mothers. Silkies are universally renowned for their calm, friendly temperament, and may not do very well with with mixed flock because of this and may be bullied.

The Plymouth Rock is an American breed of a domestic chicken. It was first seen in Massachusetts in the nineteenth century, and for much of the early twentieth century was the most popular chicken breed in the United States. It is a dual-purpose breed, raised both for its meat and for its brown eggs. It is resistant to cold, easy to manage, and a good sitter. These birds are very hardy and lay big eggs, about 200 per year and have great personalities.
