A while back we had some renovations. There was some left over timber & our existing coop was slowly decaying. So We needed a new coop. Rather than just a box to lock up the chickens at night, we wanted something that looked good in the garden. We were all locked down back then so there was little else to do. So I designed and built the trojan chook.

The trojan chook is about a year old now and has a few little modifications. It now has 4 legs. Not very chickenish but the two leg design was probably too ambitious. There is also a small piece of timber under the belly to prevent the sides bowing outwards. The poo tray slides out. I really need to cover that with vinyl. There is a vent under the beak. The roof leeks a little when it rains due to the design but that just runs out the bottom. The chooks really love it. They can shelter from the weather underneath. It gets moved around the garden to save the grass below. A small pile of bricks works as a step. A simple fence keeps the chooks in the chook-half of the garden. There is an all weather feeder that keeps the food dry and also keeps the native birds out.
