Additional Information: | Tampa Ordinance No. 2013-101 has amended chicken-keeping laws in Tampa, effective August 1, 2013. Sec. 27-43. Definitions has been amended to define chickens as domestic/companion animals rather than farm animals: Domestic or companion animal: any animal, including aquatic animals, kept for pleasure rather than utility; domestic egg-laying chickens; an animal of a species that has been bred and raised to live in or about the habitation of humans and is dependent on people for food and shelter; any animal not deemed to be a wild or exotic animal pursuant to Florida Game and Freshwater Fish Commission regulations .... Sec. 27-282.25. Kennel, small has been amended to allow up to ten chickens in a small kennel: Permitted Animals: • Domestic (excluding domestic egg-laying chickens), companion, utility, assistance animals, wild exotic Number: 0-10 Animals Other: • Outdoor pens/runs: Minimum 10' setback from any single-family use • Must adhere to Florida Game and Freshwater Fish Commission regulations... • Domestic egg-laying chickens Number: 0-10 Animals Other: • Maximum number of animals is in addition to maximum shown above • Outdoor coops to adhere to setback for outdoor pen/run above ... NOTE: Sec. 27-282.26. Kennel, large has been similarly amended Sec. 27-282.27. Animals, in general has been amended to exclude egg-laying chickens from the general regulations for fowl: (1) It is unlawful for any person to keep, harbor or maintain any farm animal, except under the following conditions: (a) Animals must be kept within an enclosed area which is a minimum of two hundred (200) feet from any dwelling on an adjoining parcel of land in separate ownership. (b) Land requirements per animal shall be as follows: ... 3. Fowl (excluding domestic egg-laying chickens): Five thousand (5,000) square feet of land for each five (5) fowl or fraction thereof; Sec. 27-282.28. Chickens as accessory use has been created to state: Chickens as an accessory use shall adhere to the following requirements: Chickens • Hens only (no roosters allowed) • 1 chicken / 1000 SF land (rounded down) • Shall not count as part of total number of animals permitted for a "family" (as defined in sec. 27-43) • Must be kept in an enclosed area (fenced or walled) at all times • Coop must be present on property in order to keep chickens Coops • Setbacks must adhere to sec. 27-290 Accessory Structures standards • Maximum height: 6' • Max area/size/coverage of land: 125 SF Finally, Sec. 27-290. Accessory structure states: (1) Accessory structures to a single-family detached dwelling in all districts. a. Accessory structures with a gross floor area (including parking areas) of less than fifteen (15) percent of the minimum required lot size. 1. Accessory structures must meet the following setbacks: In RS-75, RS-100, RS-150: From front lot line: 60 feet From corner lot line: 15 feet From side lot line: 3 feet From rear lot line: 3 feet In All Other Residential Districts: From front lot line: 60 feet From corner lot line: 7 feet* From side lot line: 3 feet From rear lot line: 3 feet .... (7) All accessory structures must be setback a minimum of 15 feet from any seawall or jurisdictional high water line on the Hillsborough River. |
