Just wanted to share the coop my family built for our 10 chickens. After looking at coops, we had an idea of what we wanted it to look like, but couldn't find any plans (at least free ones) that worked. So, we designed out own. This was done during COVID - so materials were short and WAY too expensive - making these birds the most expensive pet we've ever owned. They better lay golden eggs to pay for their keep! =)
We specifically designed it for deep bedding, so it has a drop down door in the back so you can just scrape the bedding out into a wheel barrow. It also has a huge window in front for extra light - especially during the winter. There are two windows on either side as well as 5" soffit vents along both lengths. All the windows have shutters, so they can be closed in the winter or bad storms. I originally had decorative shutters on the window in front, but the chickens didn't like sleeping in front of the window. So they crowded to either side. So I had to take them down and make them functional.
Then, of course - I had to add curtains. My family made fun of me, but I am in there every day clean and wiping down the coop and I like the pretty space. It makes me smile! =)
