Heated waterer, using a stock tank deicer and horizontal nipples

Very useful information including ideas, pictures and links to materials to make your own nipple waterers. Excellent!?
I recently got the 250W stock tank de-icer. However, the instructions mention something about inserting a pole 8' deep and wrapping copper wire around it. Did you do this as well?? It also says it's not to be used with an extension cord. My only option would be to use a heavy duty extension cord. I also got a watertight connection for that. Is this the set up you used?

I don't have a grounding rod or use an extension cord to plug the deicer in. You should be fine with your connection protected.
The photos make it quite clear! Thanks
I would make a water fountain like this if I lived in a place that froze in the winter.

thanks!
Neat idea and good clear pics.
Looks like it works well for you. What was your total approximate cost?

When I built this one, about $50.00. The deicer was $35.00(most expensive thing) I like gamma lids, for the ease of taking them off, worth $7. something to me. You might build it for less money , if you wanted to use a different heater and no gamma lid.
Love the double grommet arrangement!
