Here at Cheeky Chicken Hobby Farm we do clean more regularly and thoroughly then recommended, but we also don’t have many health issues or lice and mite problems.

This is our largest coop, not many girls in there at the moment. We have 14 in here at the moment but generally there will be 30-50.

We do a quick sweep once a week, sometimes I’ll grab the dustpan and do around the nesting boxes when I come out each morning. This does make it go longer between big cleans.

I didn’t pre soak today, so some of the stubborn poops didn’t come off and the floor hadn’t fully dried when I did the video so I still need to get the dustpan and do the corners. But you get the idea.

Every 3-4 Weeks

Step 1. Sweep every inch and remove all the hay from nesting boxes.
Step 2. Move the food and water containers and cover them, remove their dirt bath tub.
Step 3. Pre soak floor and spray vinegar/eucalyptus spray everywhere. Leave for 30min.
Step 3a. If there has been mites or lice (only had lice once so far) use boiling water in nesting boxes and edges of coop.
Step 4. Get the gurney going everywhere.
Step 5. Wipe out nesting boxes and wooden area to dry faster.
Step 6. Leave until everything is dry then put diatomaceous earth in each nesting box and hay and dustpan all the corners.
Step 7. Put everything back

I Prestene the chooks if lice or mites were found as well.
