So, your looking for the perfect breed that will fit your situation, right? You want a smaller, very pretty breed...but maybe you don't know what breeds are like this. Well, you just might be looking for the Golden Laced Wyandotte! Now you probably want to know a few things about them before you start considering them - you've come to the right place! I actually own three.

Seven things you might want to know about this breed:

1. Wyandotte's are on the smaller side of chicken breeds. Usually about 4 to 6 pounds.

2. Since they are on the lighter side, they may be a little flighty. They are also known for being skittish around people or animals who make quick movements.

3. There are several different types of Wyandotte's.

4. They are supposed to always have rose combs, but some have single combs....this is sometimes called "hatchery quality".

5. They are considered a cold hardy breed, so that is awesome news if you live somewhere where you get lots of snow! (Like me.)

6. They get broody sometimes, but not as much as other breeds do. (One of mine, Dazzle, went broody earlier this year.)

7. Wyandotte's lay lovely pale brown eggs approximately 3 or 4 times a week.

As I already said, I have three Golden Laced Wyandotte's. Only one out of the three has the 'correct' comb for the wyandotte breed: A rose comb. But, my other two are still lovely and nice!!
Here are some random pictures of my girls: (Melody, Dazzle, and Blamo.)

So, now we're gonna talk about the different 'types' of Wyandotte's. These are what you can 'pick' from: ;)

Golden Laced
Silver Laced

Columbian
Blue Laced Red
Barred
Partridge
Buff Laced
Red
Buff Columbian
Mille Fleur
Blue
Buff
Silver Pencilled
Black
White

I've never had any of the other kinds, but I'm pretty sure they are all known for the same kind of personality. (But of course, everyone who's ever owned chickens always says "Each one has her own personality." and that is very true!) You can find pictures of all of these on google or breed information sites.

I think the most popular Wyandotte's are the "Golden Laced Wyandotte" and the "Silver Laced Wyandotte". You are most likely to find these two at feed stores like Rural King and Tractor Supply Co.

I personally really like the color pattern on my Golden Laced Wyandotte's. They also lay beautiful eggs! Just picture them happily free ranging in the nice green grass.....
