Great write up and pics. Very thorough. I always felt a used too much wrap on a hen's foot. Turns out I do. Oops! I learned something though.

Only thing I still do differently is packing the open wound with the ointment rather than using just a dab. There tends to be a pocket under the skin after bubble foot is surgically removed because there's a void where the infecting was. I make sure there's enough ointment to fill the void. This lasts longer and ensure any missed infecting gets a direct dose of antibiotic from the ointment.

Good idea! I often am dealing with smaller bumbles, so I haven’t really done that, but that’s a helpful bit of advice.

Great article. I do not currently breed my ducks and I don't have the genes needed in my small flock to breed sex-linked. However, this was a very interesting read. I may one day decide to pursue sex-linked ducks if I have a larger property so I can have more ducks (and other animals) like I hope. :)

I appreciate the mention of multiple feeders and waterers. We actually only have 1 large feeder and 1 large waterer. No problems so far, but I'm going to add a second of each just to be safe.
I have a similar method of piling things in the run. I don't add bedding and poop to the run though, just grass clippings, leaves and other yard waste (weeds, garden trimmings, etc.). I have compost bins for the poop and bedding along as well as some of the other yard waste that I add there instead of the run. When you clean out the run to add compost to the garden or other plants do you pile it first for a few weeks or even months to cook off the excess nitrogen?

I will be wrapping up the vegetable garden soon. It is a raised bed and I will be adding a layer this fall. I will just put a heavy layer of compost including new chicken poops. Then cover it all with straw from the Halloween decorations. By the spring the garden will be ready for plants. So no, I don't move out of the run to a mid station pile. So far vegetables and plants have thrived.
