What did you do with your flock today?

Ok we just had a massive storm and here's an example of how the run gets right smack in the middle. It's the entire DARK area there in middle and to the right which goes underneath the brooder in there.
I'm really hoping we can get that side of the run stained and the leftover gutter from backporch on that side so it will hopefully keep this from happening.
I normally put down FSL, sweet PDZ and new pine shavings after a storm like this.

Little wet but o they look so happy!

I turned most of the compost pile into a new heap, and decided to let the chickens do some work. I scattered a few good handfuls of scratch over the compost and it gave the chickens a good workout! I bet the height of the pile dropped 6 or 8 inches from all the scratching. They pooped on it too, adding to compost nutrients.

And again, I watched them from my camping recliner, with my little guitar and a couple of beers on the ground at easy reach! It's better that TV...

Actually, it's like a reality TV show. One of the pullets got to the top of the pile and gave a good peck to one of the cockerel's heads! He jumped down to the ground and looked totally embarrassed. LOL

That's probably why I don't hear him trying to crow in the mornings anymore. He doesn't feel like the cock of the walk with the pullets always putting him in his place.

Hey gang, looks like all is well with everyone on this thread save one wet spot 😉 @Gammas. Think I would cut a trench for it to continue to flow down hill and not puddle. But that is just a guess it is weather induced. Under ground springish?
Loving the table @chicks. So excited to see its progress. You are an inspiration as always. Lucky, lucky family ♡.

Been busy so just doing a quick check in.
Sewing like a bandit and trying to get mountain coop finished inbetween life. Also helping a nice man with his cat problem. Have not been able to source vinyl flooring for mountain coop yet. Tomorrow I will make some calls while down the hill as the phone is still not working up Koke'e, so can't call flooring Co. HD does not carry rolls, but gotta paint first anyways.

The pullets are doing an essential job, teaching your young roos some respect! All my roos have been disciplined hard by my hens and were/are lovely little men (except Stan - and it shows!)

I had to take another piece of string away from a pullet trying to eat it like a long worm. What is it with these pullets. They are well fed both feed and green grass but want junk to eat.
For ours its styrofoam. They get popcorn occasionally and seem to think styrofoam is a treat food 😬 I used to use packing peanuts as a lightweight drainage layer in the bottom of landscape plants...I've learned to be really careful when repotting those plants or the chickens get silly.

Someone there has some serious building skills! Very professional looking work!

@ChicksnMore that is gonna be beautiful! Are u burning it into the wood?

@kurby22 & @TropicalBabies
I had found this in ad while watching gardening on YouTube
What do yall think?
Too good to be true? Would it work outside for the run that is covered?

I have something similar! They work great, but the water reservoir is small so they require refilling more often than I liked. They do work though and the chickens do sit right in front of them ❤️

Trying to get the chickens all squared away before we leave on vacation…and it’s gonna be 104 today and 108 tomorrow so trying to get everyone set to stay cool too. Thankfully we are here till Sunday, so we will be able to handle the worst of it—but I’m still worried! It’s amazing how there always seems to be a big chore or change needed all the time…right now an auto door isn’t working right and Ariana Sushi is escaping the run thru a hole in the bird netting…last week it was George not going to bed and a rat hole needing fixed…it’s like whack a mole 🤪

Yesterday we put down my sweet old lady Chloe and it made for a very sad and somber day 😢 She just wasn’t happy and it felt cruel to keep her going for our sake. She was the goodest of girls ❤️

So I’m grateful for a vacation but feeling stressed and sad too. Loving animals is HARD 😫😢💔
