This thread is all about the breeding (hopefully) flock of a Greek landrace breed known as the Tsouloufati, or as the Vlahiki, or as Eliniki. This whole flock will be turning two in mid May and consists of 7 birds, 6 hens and one rooster. There is an ISA brown in this flock as well, so technically there are 5 hens and one rooster. Today all the breeding birds got banded, (white for the rooster, black for the hens) so we are ready to start the season! The only named birds in this flock are Kolovos the rooster(translates to butt-less) and miss Mayhem (the hen with the floppy comb)

I'd also like to explain to you my reasoning for banding the way I did, and the way I'll keep doing it. Roosters get a white band on the right leg (when you're looking from the back), and hens a black on the left leg. Appart from this helping me distinguish birds out on free range (as they're the only birds banded on my property), when I get to a point where I have multiple roosters on the property, I plan on placing a different color ring on each rooster's right leg, and then for the hens a black ring on the left for indicating breed and gender, and on the right a ring the same color with the ring of the rooster they are penned with, that way I can keep track of each hen, and make sure she's in with the right rooster. Also, if anyone has any questions about the breed, feel free to ask them, and I'll try my best to answer them!

Did eggtopsies on the eggs Cruella was sitting on. All but one out of the five eggs were fertilized and had made it to day 8. Hopefully next time it's a success, and at least now we know Kolovos isn't firing blanks. Last year was the same, a little worse maybe

The aseel×brahma is gorgeous! Love his eyes and eye brows! ❤

Thank you! This one is a Big Red offspring. It has come out quite nice. I'm actually not sure if it's a cockerel or a pullet. At the time of the photo, these guys were 13 or 14 weeks, and it doesn't have any male-specific feathering. But its colour is throwing me off a little

It still looks like a pullet at this point but a stout pullet! Nice shape to this bird! ❤
