The chicken chat

I really like the variety of your girls.

I have 21 hens and 2 roosters. Six of those are Cochins; the most of any breed I have. The Cochins are 3 full-sized girls, one buff and two partridge. Of the Bantam Cochins, one hen is a barred, and the other is an adorable red frizzle; the blue rooster is a real little jerk, but he's good with his girls.

The frizzle's name is Gabby because she always has something to say. But she sounds like Eeyore when she talks. Unlike him, however, she is not constantly depressed. Maybe just whiny? Always dissatisfied with her human's caretaking?

And, of course, they all have names! I've never understood why people think I wouldn't name my chickens. Or my ducks and geese? Or sheep and goats? Just like my dogs and cats, all my pets have names.

Hahahah Gabby is cracking me up I know people are always surprised when my chickens have names but why? They're the same as dogs and cats! Thanks for sharing!

Hello! I love chicken chats!! I could carry on all day. I love admiring their behavior and interactions with one another, myself and the environment all around. My 5 gold laced wyanottes from TSC will be 2 yrs old this May. iI havnt missed a single day of being out there cleaning coop, raking, changing water, all of it. I wouldnt change a thing. Well, except maybe a bigger coop and more roosts and more square footage and more chickens! Thanks for sharing. I love seeing peoples coops/runs/chickens/gardens, all of it. Thank you! Now you know i have to show off my beauties!

Your Wyandottes are beautiful! I LOVE the photo with their wings spread and them running full speed ahead. Any chance they're sprinting toward treats?? My Wyandottes -- a Blue-Laced Red and a Colombian -- are seriously treat motivated.

Nice-looking setup, too!

I would love to see a picture of your Wyandottes Callender girl. Whats funny is they are not running for treats. Instead, (i live on a dead end), often when they come across that driveway back to coop, they must feel very vulnerable from overhead and more than not, look like that, lol. I love to see it. Fortunately, I dont need treats to get them. I have been taking them on 'walks' everyday of their lives. They stay with in a radius of me always. I bring the flock to one of their many playgrounds, and wait for them to start scratching, and then walk away. They'll explore for about 30-45mins and always come check in with me. Its quit cute and has become a routine we are all happy with. I refuse to leave them outside alone b/c of hawks, so, i would love to have a large fenced in free range area. That way I can go pee quick and not be nervous a hawk will. come! 3-4 hrs a day i spend outside with them. 😳Needless to say tho, i have a 30 foot long rock wall i have built with my time out there. Lol 🐓❤️
