My Firstfruits

6 of the Firstfruits of my flock are our of the incubator and into the brooder. On more is in the process of hatching and the other egg has not done anything.

(Hatch-along thread here).

If I'm judging this correctly, I have 2 blue chicks and 4 black ones:

(Some multiple shots of the same chick to try to get better pictures).

I forgot to check legs when I was transferring them -- worrying more about getting their beaks dipped into the water -- so I don't know for sure if any have feathered feet. Most, at least, are clean-legged.

BTW, once I know for sure how many hatch and that they are strong and thriving I will be selling all of them and giving the money to God -- because they are the firstfruits of my flock.

It's been difficult to come up with a means of tithing chickens.

Yea I’d imagine so. I wonder if maybe giving a tenth of the eggs to like a food bank/pantry (such as one run by a church) would be a good means as well? I teased our pastor’s wife that I was just going to randomly drop off our unwanted drakes at their property. (Our pastor goes duck hunting) We ended up keeping our drakes though.

The 6 of them look so tiny in my huge brooder.

They aren't eating or investigating the water, just snoozing. I put the heat lamp down a notch on the chain in case they were cold -- though they looked snuggled rather than huddled.

Maybe ask the church if there might be a family in need you could give eggs to directly?
