STOWAWAYS

OH No! What am I going to do?!

I have stowaways šŸ˜³

Actually no they are not from yesterday, and not a real coincidence that Peavey Mart has the same Bantams as TSC had yesterday, I am betting Hoovers shipped Bantams to both Peavey and TSC this week.

These where the very last two chickies in the store and they were screaming up a storm, broke my heart to hear them so distressed so I told the store clerk, give me a deal and Iā€™ll take them off your hands. So 2 for the price of one and home they came!

Being bantams they are straight run. And in my case are likely both Roosā€¦..

I wonder what sort of Bantams they are?
Oh. It happened again. Well, I guess I would do the same thing if I heard screaming chicks.

But how many chickens do you have now?! 40?!

No saddle fit Auggie. I used a bareback pad, but even that was too big for him.

Iā€™m going to order a girth. It should be here on Tuesday. I walked and trotted. He wanted to canter but I didnā€™t let him.
I started slipping when he tried picking up the canter, but I grabbed onto his mane to regain my balance.

Your pony has three white legs - you can tell because his three hooves are light coloured.

You are going to have so much fun with him :)

They are little terrors! Esp the lighter one - she screams and is trying to fly out through the door - she managed to somehow fly up the 6" and get wedged in the 1" hole in the chicken wire - needless to say I was totally freaked out. They are going into the small cat crate I have tonight, I gave my niece the large crate I used with the other chicks. They should be fine in that crate for the night. Tomorrow I will bring in the water trough I used last year with the chicks. I'll put it in the feedroom for now, they are sooooo tiny! Don't want them to get injured by anyone.

I am guessing they are a week old, Peavey gets the day olds in on Tuesday's so they much hatch on Sunday or Monday morning at the latest.
Make sure that they are safe. Chicks getting wedged in wires is very dangerous.

Oh the little troublemaker. Please, may I make one request if you do not mind. Can the lighter one be named "Chicken"? For those who do not know, Momma Hens official name was "Chicken". That will all be explained in part 2 of Momma's story tonight. I'm feeling better and after the housework is done and we play the game of phase 10 I committed to with my brother this evening I will sit down and write it.

In order of their current pecking order, I present to you:

Caroline! A dominant white Olive egger to whom I canā€™t stop singing ā€œSweeet Caroline, ta ta taaa šŸŽ¶ ā€œ. She is in fact sweet, always blindingly white, and favors lounging.

Moa! Named after the now-extinct giant, peaceful, flightless black birds of New Zealand. Moa is a big gal at just nine weeks, and already chooses roosts no more than a foot or two off the ground.

This is the wee chick! She is six weeks old now but still significantly smaller than the others (the only one without a dual purpose background I suppose). She flies all over the place! Iā€™m stuck on her name though. So far Iā€™ve been leaning towards Ricky (because I just learned what Rick Rolling is, would get to sing ā€œNever gonna give you upšŸŽ¶ ā€œ all the time, and that poof deserves an 80s name. But also my kid wants to name her Pips. So, tough choice.

Vote?
Wow they are getting big, even the small one. Do those other two have feathered legs?

Oh. It happened again. Well, I guess I would do the same thing if I heard screaming chicks.

I have two chickens - and I will have to think of names for them. I am thinking Dot and Dash..... :gig

Oh you should have seen me - totally freaked out! The reason I used 1" wire instead of 2" was because I didn't want to risk weasels, and if I had chicks didn't want them escaping! I didn't think of ever having bantams. I didn't have this issue with my silkie chicks last year! Of course they were raised by mama hens. It would be simple to throw them under a broody old hen - but nope my ladies are having none of it!

Why are my hens not broody?!

Absolutely šŸ’• Chicken it is.

Seems I only have one lonely chickie now :) Sure hope Chicken is a Chickette!

I wanted to go take the picture of where Sir Jaffar was laid to rest, but I couldnā€™t do it. I started getting so sad, I had to leave the property. I will be there on Tuesday and take one then. :(

More big hugs

Oh really? I must ask Greg - he has a bunch of them. I haven't had a chance to go to Hoovers and check out their bantams.

The lighter one has what looks like barred wings - I will try to get better photos tomorrow.

Awwww they look so lonely there just the two of them.
