..if still awake/wake up... it sure lights up the sky. No stars that way

What is keeping Hen-Rietta alive is beyond me. She hasn’t eaten anything in three days. She’s got yellow watery discharge and I haven’t seen her drinking anything either. I took her out from the yard and she’s with me in the air conditioning
Have you tried scrambled eggs?

@Ponypoor and @RebeccaBoyd, what saddle brand would you recommend? I’d want a saddle that will last a long time. Probably an English all round saddle.
Tax: Ruby’s comb flopped over a few weeks ago and it’s adorable. I love this BR so much. She’s been chasing the chicks though.View attachment 3829002
Don’t worry about the chicks, as long as you have a place for them to hide they should be ok.

As for saddles, that depends on what you’re going to do. I use a general purpose ‘English’ saddle which I have had for 30 years - it’s a generic no name brand.

I would look online for a used one, already broke in. Ask the person if you can borrow it to ensure it fits the pony.

You can go online and check out how to ensure the saddle fits. You also want it to fit you, an average size is 16” seat. That is what my saddle is and I am very petite.

Make darn sure the billet straps are in good condition, those are the straps you attach the girth to. Again if you go online you can check out these things.

And stirrup leathers need to be also in good condition. I can tell you one day I was riding Lulu in the bush galloping down a sandy lane when my right stirrup leather broke. I almost fell off - luckily Lulu stopped when she felt me shift from the stirrup giving way. Bad Kelly! They were cheap leather I bought them because they were cheap - and they broke easily. I went and bought a good set of leathers.

I use both a leather girth and a string girth. Ask your friend what she uses when she rides him.

As for bridles a plain snaffle will likely do fine. I use a full cheek snaffle as a regular ring one can be easily pulled through the side of their mouth if you try to turn and pull too hard on the reins.

And for a saddle blanket get something easily washed - cotton is great. Make sure you wash that regularly in hot weather. Which you get lots of! Dry it in the sun after every ride.

I will leave it to @Ponypoor for english saddles. We use western saddles. Rosie and dad each have their own Fabertron trail saddles for daily use. Mom's pride and joy and the saddle she thinks Rosie should show Russ in is our American 250. It is old, heavy but very well made and will last for many many more years to come. We have the matching bridle, and breast strap to go with it.

Here is the #250.

The trail saddles were bought new and were between 300 to 400 plus shipping. I like them, they are lightweight and comfortable. The show saddle, the entire set was bought off ebay and not cheap. I think between 700 to 800 used mind you. While it was used it had been taken very good care of and worth every penny.
That’s a beautiful saddle and would look lovely on Truly (her being white/grey) - I have a black saddle and bridle for her.

And it looks very comfortable!

PtR

This is my general purpose saddle I have had for many years.

This horse I am riding is Shahreen, she is long passed away now - that was over 30 yrs ago so I have had that saddle a long long time. I had that bridle hand made for Shahreen, it’s now Truly’s. Black on white horses is very sharp.
