Black Copper Shimmer Gender ID?

These are almost 7 weeks old. And I don't know how you all get such great pics! Mine will not hold still for a second. One of these has that shimmer in their tail feathers...is that always an indication of rooster? Any guesses on these two?

At this age you're looking at comb and wattle growth. They are both cockerels.

I figured that...Hoping that since BCMs have larger combs, they could still be gals! LOL except for that shimmer

A little bigger sometimes, but not that big. Not at 7 weeks.

I've got 2 new 6.5 week old boys also in my latest hatch of 8. And your right, they don't stay still very long.

Spot the combs... The copper coming in on their chests is an indicator for my Marans but that is not a tell tale sign across others. My rooster is slightly over colored in his chest, the hen I needed boys from I only got 3 pullets so I'm hatching more from her. (Got 9 eggs from her under a broody now)

Oh wow, I may have more boys than I thought! I can keep one, but that's all for now....They are supposed to be "pure" so I'm hoping someone will want BCM roos!

If you don't harvest them yourself, you can post on Craigslist or FB for around $5/ and they'll go fast. If you want to re-home them, it might take a little longer.

How many Marans do you have?

I hatched 24 out of 25 eggs on April 1st. Some are easter eggers. She had easter eggers and BCM in the same coop with her BCM roo. I have about 14 of the 25 that definitely look like BCM.....some I can tell are mixed eggers and BCM and some don't look anything at all like BCM...except maybe the feathered feet.
