Do you ever get tired of having to let your chickens out of the coop in the morning and having to go back out every night to close 'em up to make sure they're safe at night. Watch this video it might be your answer. This will make your life much easier.

Hubby installed a similar product for me this summer. However, they are not completely fool proof. My door occasionally binds, and can get stuck in either the open or closed position, depending on what caused the binding. I would not trust the door for an extended period without supervising the flock. It does not take away the need to "keep an eye on the flock.

I have a solar powered automatic coop door and it has worked great for us. It's been about 5 years with no issues *knock on wood*. I do need to reset it a few times a year to account for changing daylight.

I got an auto coop door 2 years ago after 22 years of chicken keeping & I love it! Mine automatically updates opening & closing times by your location & after a few problems with my first one, it has been flawless! I did have a few times where hens were locked out, but I always check them when I am home. When I go away, I hope for the best, as they would be left open if I didn't have it!

I use the one below for three years now, no problems so far I also bought the Chicken Guard door kit from them. I don't think I can do without it.
Just a tip if you install one of those install it high well above the floor as straw and stuff can get under it and it gives a hint to predators where to try.
Buying very good quality AA batteries and I change them every 10 months.

My fear is that something eill follow them in and get locked in with them! Or someone will get locked out ;( am I weird because I love the piece of mind I get by manually closing them up and letting them out?

That's why I check mine often. And I still go out almost every night to be sure every one is where they need to be. The beauty of an auto pop door IMO is that it gets the job done if I'm not home to shut up the coop at dark.

This door has a light that is meant to be mounted on the outside of your coop that comes on when the coop door is closed. It's should be mounted in a place that can be seen from your home. You can look at the light any time of the day and tell if the door is opened or closed. Here's a link to the Predator Guard website. https://predatorguards.com/
