after the medicated chick starter feed , what's next?

When the chicks are done with the medicated starter feed what do I feed them until they are ready to lay eggs. And do I start the layer feed before the eggs or when they first start to lay the eggs. Is one brand of chick food better than the other. I looked on the TSS website and seen 2 brands- Manna, and Purina. Also I have seen posts about the protein % in the feed, What should the protein % be for chickens.

Starter/Grower would work or Flock Raiser. Don't start the Layer until you see eggs and even then it's safe to use up whatever you have with oyster shell or crushed egg shell.
