I had germination problems with 2 verities of winter squash. Different sources. Reordered from different sellers. Transplanted more squash, pulled 2 supers off beehives, installed new range hood with fan, and changed furnace filter.
Bought that spray for clothes to keep ticks off. Started using it. Time will tell. Okra is up. Planted glass gem popcorn. Field corn is up 4+ inches in the area. Should be able to save popcorn seed.
Ugh I feel rough. I need to buy some of that spray for my clothes. Says it works for chiggers also. Also can spray on dogs fur. Dog shares ticks with me. Trying to get my fishing buddy lined up but weather and schedules are a problem. Maybe next week.
It has looked like rain all day. It has not rained yet. Yesterday while out DW stopped at Walmart. I thought I would buy some mosquito dunks. I was surprised they had none. I wanted dill seed to plant for the butterflies but none. I bought dill seed in the spice section. Should grow and lots of...
I did manage to mow yesterday despite the threat of rain. Nice day today however DW has a DR appointment and then grocery shopping. Not likely to get much done outside today.
I have noticed the wild plums and some never set fruit. They can clone themselves by root suckers which can be the cause in some cases of patches not fruiting. I have no ideas why some will not set fruit even with domestic varieties blooming at the same time. I have wild ones that never set...
I have redbud tree seed sprouting. I experimented with pear cuttings from pruning. A few are breaking bud too early to say success but hopeful. I use a few unusual moisture conserving methods on cuttings and grafts. I used to use parafilm wrap then I used shellack spray and these I coated with...
2 zuke varieties crossing. I doubt you would notice. Here is a true story. In the 80s I had a Philopena neighbor about 1/4 mile away. She liked to garden. I was still open pollinating C. Peppo. Next year I had really long skinny squash from her squash pollen. She had squash that looked like some...
They should be hand pollinated to prevent crossing. They are in the C. Peppo group. So many verities in that group. Nearly impossible to isolate them for seed saving. I save seed and do some breeding. Seeds from one squash will last you for years.
I went fishing yesterday and the sunfish were biting. Caught a nice mess. Fish for supper today. Got a bit pink in the sun. Lost my tan during all the cloudy rainy days.
Rain stopped. Cloudy gloomy morning. More rain around 1 pm. I think there will be a lot of mosquitoes hatch especially once the river goes down. So many puddles for them to hatch in. My minnows are keeping the mosquito larva cleaned up in the stock tank.
I have a weed that I identified as butterweed. I have been spraying them trying to control it. Never had it in this area until the last few years. A native and lots of yellow flowers. Some are 6 feet tall.
