Foliar fed the trees today. Perfect morning for it. Lots of fog.
One tree peony flowered! Very pretty! They were planted in the fall. Since these are grafted, they may bloom the first year.
Can you get a helper, one on each side of the tree, but at edge of drip line. Using poles, attach deer netting to the poles, then up and over the tree to the other side. 8ft deer netting should well cover top, then add additional to uncovered sides if needed.
My FIL grows cherries, but now...
Not sure! We provide ours with loose goat minerals, hay and textured goat feed (it’s contains pellets and whole grains). The kids are eating the loose minerals just fine, so, maybe the dirt smells good? It’s only the dirt from the garden beds (mostly empty still).
Predatory nematodes 2/3 applied.
I started a bit late this am, so I’ll wait to apply the other 1/3 later today, as the sun is going down. They are UV susceptible, and it’s recommended to apply early or late in the day to moist soil. so I’m now lightly watering the areas where I applied the...
The beneficial insects (triple mix of nematodes) arrived yesterday. First shipment of 5, I bought a monthly subscription bc I need to apply them a few times I think. I applied nematodes 1x a few years ago and I recall the next year seemed a little lighter in insect pressure (nematodes? Deep...
I’m in Ohio too-west central. So sick of rain. Raining as I type this. I am happy though for the lack of frost in May. I still remember a few years ago a low in the 20s around May 22!!! That was just mean spirited by Mother Nature.
I hate thistle. If you are on top of walking and inspecting the areas, every couple of days and you get them when small, this can work. Last year we had to employ herbicide to some larger clumps bc they were too vigorous, and deep digging was still not getting them all, and they spread...
Everyone is home and fine. Turns out spouse was also driving home while sirens blaring - the storms were right behind him. Oops…forgot he was driving home…concerned about teen…
a few tornados touched down north, and I think south, of us. Hoping they were short lived. Sounds like Michigan...
Tornado sirens are going off. At least one tornado has been spotted, about 20 miles NW of me, and tornado warnings just north and NE of me. The rain just finally reached me now. It was oddly still and humid for the part half hour or so. My teen just got home about 5 min ago. She was driving...
we’ve been having more issues with bugs. Not surprising since bugs go where the food is, and gardens have lots of food and great environments.
So, decided to buy beneficial nematodes this year. I’ve bought them one other time and applied them 1x. This time I’ve ordered a subscription for...
Yay!! I hope they work out well for you!
PEE-U….GAG! Farmer is fling cow shtuff in the field behind us. Now THAT is a powerful smell. It should rain an hopefully tamp down that smell. Animals still needed water and food, so I was not spared from the smell. :sick
Weird egg found...
We started to string the bean towers. Ran out of string, so to be continued! However, I did plant some beans for drying in the part that was strung.
The bed planted last week has sprouted - peas, radish, cabbage, spinach, along with onion starts.
Large beds are prepped. Now to get the...
Ok. Just attempted this.
Tried 2 sprayers, both clogged. I shook them constantly, I moved them around, I held them vertically and horizontally, but nothing worked to get them to spray more than a couple of seconds. I did mix the lime with water in a bucket first. Am I supposed to wait...
I knew nothing really, about privet. I now know a little about the green evil you speak about.
Article speaking about privet. Pretty sure photos are in order.
Celebrity. Great producer of very uniform tomatoes. Great for slicing. Not too big, not too small. Nice flavor. This will be our third year growing them.
Better Boy: also a good one we’ve planted last year. We will grow again this year.
Terracotta: nope nope nope. They nearly all...
