I have a breeding pair of Cayugas. Female just hatched out a whole nest of ducklings and a feral cat got all the babies. We just bought a trap for the cat, but my question is while she go broody again this season? Should I see about a few babies for her? I've never had ducks hatch out ducklings...

These were taken from a cannibal broody. They are random mixed chicks. "Nice seating in this joint."

I lost 3 to this hen who was brooding these chicks. The shells were completely gone, as well as any debris usually associated with hatching. The chick was wet, but missing feathers where she had pecked them off, and some of the skin as well. My hen has free range of 2 acres, she was allowed to...

I had this literal thing happen this morning. I am fortunate to have an incubator. So the next question is how do you deal with the mom after you take the eggs?

So, I threw some cayuga duck eggs in a couple days before my chicken eggs, separate incubator. They are pipped. WHAAAA???

Up to 3 hatched, 2 pipped and 2 not pipped yet but I can hear them peeping. Looks like everyone might actually hatch this time.

Cool, he's such a good boy, he protects me from our Ahole rooster, but... you gotta pull your weight on the farm.

He should be 3 years now, the girls are both on their second season. I never got any fertile eggs from them last year either, chalked it up to stress of moving to our property and being young.

I have two hens and one tom, we see him mating... or trying... often. Eggs are infertile. What's the next step? Ol' boy is looking mighty tasty right about now.... :lol:
