Aaaw, those remind me so much of the romanian/russian painted eggs the family of my father always made for easter.
I think it is done with wax, protecting the lighter colour you want to keep before putting the egg in the next darker colour if I remember right.
Have to look it up, these pics really make me want to make my own, lovely.
