Well done. I helped a friend convert a VW Bus. But it actually still drives, is still registered and still road worthy.

The implantation and work done (excluding some aspects) is good. However, the use of a vehicle antenna is such a bad idea that it completely destroys any of the good you do.

  1. They are not meant to hold up any sort of load beyond the antenna itself.
  2. Weak. Not just it not being designed to hold loads but predators can easily defeat this.
  3. Mounting is a nightmare. From mounting the base to mounting the tip.
  4. Power usage is an issue. It will be using power all day/night if not wired with two timers.
  5. Wiring is not hard to understand but if failure or incorrect wiring happens most people have difficulty fixing it.
  6. Expense is very high when there are way better options.

So many reasons why not to use an antenna and virtually none for using one.

Buy a Linear Actuator that is meant for this sort of thing. All the points I made above are non-issues when using a linear actuator.

Side notes.
Use WAGO snap connectors. Makes wiring, troubleshooting, reconfiguring and maintenance much easier.
Use Female 12v DC Power Jack Adapter Connectors. No need to cut of the ends of the power supplies.

If you are going to do this anyway, you might as well wire it like one of these diagrams. #2 & #1 are basically the same but #2's timers are easier to mount and can be used with Linear Actuator, for a better system.

Saved Best for last. #4 It requires no Diode
