First time chicken Mama here. I ran the little bottom under running lukewarm/warm water, then gently wiped, not pull, the poop away. One piece was so hardened, I cut it off with scissors. I was so nervous, but it turned out ok. (The black silkie)

This is my other pasty butt, a white silkie. Her vent is cleared but I couldn't get this stuff under her vent off. I blow dried her and noticed it was still super hard. Like stuck on. Any suggestions?

It looks good, don't be afraid to trim the hair up around the vent if needed. Whatever it takes to keep that vent clear and clean.

trim it out if you can. The most important thing is the vent being clear. As soon as they start getting backed up they get sick really quickly. How is your brooder temperature? Having more than one pasty butt can be a sign of too high of temperatures if you hatched them yourself. It is more common in shipped chicks due to stress.

Thank you. I picked these guys up from rural King a day after they got in
