What ever you do, make sure you use a good primer!!
The primer will make the paint 'hold' onto the cabinets.
If you do not primer, the paint will chip off almost as soon as it dries!!
The primer for cabinets is usually oil base so make sure you dont drip it on anything because it is very hard to impossible to get cleaned up! and you might as well throw the paint brush away you used for it!
You can then use a water base paint
primer it
paint an undercolor
paint a top color and sand it for the antique look you want.
