New to site not sure if I posted in place. anyway Whats the best thing to use on the coop floor?

In the past we've used wood shavings, straw and sand. Hands down wood shavings have been the best but straw is much cheaper.

i use straw - heres a little tip i discovered last year - call around to your local drugstores & markets about thanksgiving time - they use alot of straw bales for display & you can get them for REALLY cheap or nothing!! I got about 10 bales last year for free!!

wood shavings....I use the deep litter method.

My tip: go to your local cabinet store (or lumber mill if you have one nearby)....ask for the shavings. I get all mine for FREE.

I don't like straw cuz it makes it easier for mites and lice to hide (YUK), but I do use just a little in the nest box as they like to "nest around" in it.

but straw is much cheaper.

This depends on where you live I pay $2.00 per bale of straw and $5.00-$10.00 for a dump truck load of fresh dry shavings.

I use shavings on the floor and straw in the houses
