Blocked crop

My chicken's crop was blocked and she just had surgery to remove the matter inside. There were a lot of pine shavings which I have used for the substrate. The coop is on concrete so I wanted something soft but cant use this anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was told pine pellets which turn into sawdust might be easer to pass the crop if it gets inside. Any other ideas? Thanks Maria

Can you get tree chips from a tree company?
