My rooster had bumble feet and he was sitting for almost 2 months. Other than he was unable to walk, he was not lethargic. It dragged out that long because I didn’t know he had bumble foot. He didn’t have the telltale black scab on that foot and it was very swollen. And then we had to evacuate and my chickens went to a farm so I could not treat it.
When we came back home, the other foot had a circle and I cleaned it out and it healed. He stands on that leg most of the time.
When the foot healed we opened the swollen one and found the kernel, albeit in pieces. We took out what we could find and soaked in epsom salt bath, rinsed with silver and dressed with silver soaked packing. We are on day 6 post-op but he is still holding the foot in the air.
So my question is, how long does it take for the hole to heal up enough that it does not hurt to stand and walk on it.
The wound is not infected. The top of the foot is bruised. The whole foot pad is still swollen. I don’t blame him for not wanting to put full weight on it but I expect him to want to start going around. He talks to the ladies but the guys are rude and they push him around so he tries to avoid confrontation. He sleeps in the bathroom until the wound is healed and he does not need daily dressing changes, and of course as long as he is not able to walk or run away.
