I have multiple roosters all of whom seem to "Breed". With that in mind how long do I have to isolate hens with my RIR roo to insure the eggs I want to incubate are his??? I intend to make sex links, pruebreds, and "75%ers" for lack of A better way to describe it.

The big rooster has been away from the flock for 10 days. He was walking wobbly and couldn’t keep balance. Happened practically overnight. Not sure what happened but I was in the hospital for 2 days. Not sure if human caused the injury or he ate something bad. There is a tiny other rooster in...
Hello everyone. Need some help identifying the gender of this specific chicken. For context all 3 chickens in these pictures are same hatch date. Got them from a family friend as chicks. The white chicken in question is the one with deep red comb and waddles. I can not for the life of me figure...
I know nobody can make this decision for me, but this is my first flock and I’d really appreciate your advice. Our chickens are 15 weeks old and two of them are cockerels, a Blue Laced Wyandotte and a Barred Plymouth Rock. They are both beautiful.
All 12 chickens have grown up together since...
I’m new to backyard birds! My first set of chickens (11 standard girls) is about 3 months old. My second set (4 unsexed bantams and 1 unsexed standard) is 2 months old. They are all integrated in the same coop/free ranging together but they remain in their little separate groups. This morning, 2...
So, I’m new. I apologize if this is unnecessary or in the wrong spot! I have 5 Roos. Bawk Bawk is my big Australorp and he is the oldest and Alpha, while frostbite during this NNY winter hit my boys hard and I went into the coop to find Bawk Bawk covered in blood and comb tore up! So I’ve...
I’ve grown out 5 chicks - 2 that I hatched and 3 that I got at 1 day old. They’re my first chickens and I’m very attached, and they’ve grown up together. They’re my pets, and they even lived in my room for most of their life to date.
Now that they’re older I’m starting to be able to tell which...
How much (if any) fighting can I tolerate between roosters? I have 5 1 yo roosters who all grew up with each other and they get along for most of the day until the evening they start getting in matches. I try to break it up when I see it but obviously I can’t be around at all times. Sometimes...
Hello, I'm planning on getting chicks very soon and am trying to decided what to do. I'm ordering from Hover's Hatchery and have chosen quite the variety. I have 14 hens that I'm planning to order and 1 rooster. I also already have 8 adult hens. I don't really want two roosters, but that might...
Hi All
This is my first winter with my backyard flock (and first time with multiple roos) and need a bit of advice.
We have 10 birds, what we originally thought were 2 Roosters and 8 Hens. But the more I look at one of the girls, the more I think she is a he.
The two boys are from the same...
Howdy everyone!
So here’s my dilemma: I have four young bantam/Game fowl cross cockerels who are brothers. They are just over 4 months old (born July 18th). I tried to find homes for them all by asking around (I live in a rural area so I know people who know people who might be able to take...
So apparently now have 1 silkie cockerel:idunnoas well as a cochin that is working on crowing at the moment. Total, I will have 4 regular sized girls and 2 banty hens (2 toms too, but I don't count them because they could care less about the whole thing lol). Can I keep the cochin and the silkie...
Greetings all. New to the forums and forums in general but after a lot of contemplating I finally decided to ask the online experts for any opinions on my situation as follows.
We have had a rooster and 9 hens for a few years with no real issues. We had a new rooster come into our life...
I have a situation I need advice on.
Currently I have 2 cockerels:
Angus- a 10 month old Naked Neck
Oliver- a 6 month old Black Australorp
Oliver was supposed to be a pullet.
He’s completely non-aggressive so I decided to keep him.
Both males are in the same coop with 13 girls.
1 hen is...
Hi everyone! I'm new to BYC but am looking for help. I have a very small flock of 5 Ameraucauna chickens, 3 hens and 2 roosters. They are approximately 9 months old and the hens just recently started laying. Out of the 2 roosters, we have one that is becoming much more dominant to the point that...
Hello BYC!
So-- I've been waiting to post about this for awhile now because I didn't want to jinx it! But I finally think I can share my story:
I ended up with only 2 hens from an original 6 last April. I proceeded to get 6 more chicks and hatched 2 'legacy' chickens of my own (between March...
we had gotten 8 chickens for Easter - 6 sexed hens and 2 unsexed bantams. One of our bantams quickly developed into the cutest little rooster and we were so glad to have a smaller one because we have had problems in the past with big roosters leading our flock out of control Today we found one...
