Fairly new chicken mama here (we got our first chicks back in February) who is just starting to dip my toes into breeding, so I've come to this forum to learn as...
We have 8 golden deathlayer chicks just hatched in incubator.
7 of them are a brownish red color and one is very blonde.
Does the difference in color indicate sex?
Also does anyone have any advice on raising this breed.
Ive heard they are harder to raise?
Hi all!
I have some roos that I got as part of an order from Greenfire that I need a new home for! They are rare breeds so I would rather rehome them than eat them!
I have 1 Gold Deathlayer male, 2 Silver Deathlayer males, and 1 Black Copper Maran male. All of them are in excellent health...
A few days ago I picked up these two beauties. The lady told me they just came off heat, and they are an Isabel orpington and a silkie/Deathlayer. I think/hope they are female, but thought I would see if anyone here might have confirmation! :)
After 3 months with us, "Daisy" turned out to be a rare-breed ROOSTER. He is looking for a good home where roosters are allowed (city of Staunton allows hens only). We are extremely disappointed to have to give up this beautiful chicken! Will be given free to first responsible responder. We are...
Possibly interested in selling a few of my newly hatched deathlayers (out of Greenfire Farms stock)- I live in upstate NY and unable to ship so would need to meet in person.
Anyone have any idea on pricing?
Greenfire Farms charges $99 per chick when available-which they don’t currently! I...
hello!
I’m a new chick mom and I have some baby silver deathlayers. They will be two weeks tomorrow and seem to be thriving finally. They were shipped to me from out of state.
I check their vents daily at least once if not twice as i suspect a few died from that. One still has his vent get a...

I'm new to chickens after a 40 year absence. Forty years ago I raised about 100 chickens in Mentor, Ohio. It began as a 4-H project. Now that I'm semi-retired from the grape business I decided I needed another expensive hobby! I currently live in Kingsville, Ohio.
My focus is the Buckeye breed...
I have recently been reading up on Deathlayers and am wondering why they are not APA. It seems they are historic, is it just cause they are a new import? Is there a movement in the U.S. to add them to the APA list? I know the Cream Legbar is a few years out from being added but is there even a...
We have too many roosters for our flock of hens - so we're looking to sell one to a local buyer if possible. Our Totleger birds were originally from Greenfire Farms, NPIP certified, and they are now approx. 5 months old. They are very beautiful birds!
We are located in Southern Missouri near...
**this is a coincidence by the way. My deathlayer appears to have wounds not tumors**
Hi, I need an expert here. Is it common for birds to be getting tumors?
I had a quail with a giant wing tumor two weeks ago, inside in one habitat. Now my Totleger (Deathlayer) is showing signs of head...
**UPDATE***
You all gave me a LOT to think about. I went out there and crouched and quietly observed my flock of 5. She did NOT go into the coop with the rest at dusk. She stayed in between my legs until the dominant left, then she pecked at food lightly.
I think yall are right on two...
In writing this article on Improved Campines, I do not want to belittle any other breed, for I have bred various breeds for fifteen years and a found a number of breeds to be profitable I handled properly, but I find the Campine is the most profitable breed under all conditions.
Breeders who...
