I have very sad news :hit Unfortunately hope had to be culled, her mother crushed her legs causing them to be crooked and something had blocked her vent as well, If you want any additional information, Please look at my other thread :(
I noticed the chick has gotten quite bigger, She used to have trouble jumping out of the nest but shes gets in and out easily. and she chases her momma around, Once in a while the mother hen will squat down and the chick goes in for some warmth and in a few minutes they are back to walking...
We are getting more hens soon, the chick is doing fine and I have them separated in a little area and i let the momma out every now and then so she can do some dust bathing and eating and she returns to the crate and I close it again, I named the chick 'Hope' 😊
Rocky (our rooster) has another hen who he mates with way more than with her, He doesn't bite the chicks and ended up attacking our ducks when they tried biting one of the chicks
I have a lot of space and there is no drakes, Just one Plymouth barred rock rooster and there's plenty of room inside and out. Theres a bunch of greens growing and such, they all eat it (Leaves, Flowers, etc etc) its not a main filler for them, I still feed them actual food
One is doing wonderful, Hes chirping and mom keeps calling him back over to her because he likes digging stuff in the hay, His sibling is very weak though and it seems like the mom is not taking care of him
Another baby chick had died, He was not underneath the mother and we have 2 chicks now, One chick is laying down eyes closed and chirping!! Is there anything I can do??
I separated the mom and her chicks they are doing just fine, I bring some food and the mother knows she is safe inside the nestbed so she doesn't leave
She's taken the opportunity to teach them a few more things like to drink water.. eat stuff, scratch hay, and she sometimes comes out grabs...
it also does not help that the mom is putting the chicks underneath her wings and body and the rooster keeps trying to mate with her while she is doing that, Which sometimes crushes the chicks and makes the chicks run out.
My duck margarito attacked the chicks and crippled one 2 of them by violently biting their legs.. they did not make it to the nest last night and the mom tried bringing them but they never did. They ended up dying that night and we are missing one more chick but I do not know where it is, I only...
Update!! Mom has been really nice to her chicks, we lay some food down and she calls them over, she lunged at the ducks when they got close to the chicks but she's been showing them around and brings them to the nest at night !!
Thank you! However I am having a small issue, We have a leghorn who laid some eggs and we think the eggs might hatch and the australorp might start taking care of the leghorns offspring, Will this be a problem?
Hello everybody, I have a black australorp hen (I think) that layed eggs, sat on them for a while, we thought they would not ever hatch, and we were having issues because my cousin decided to grab random eggs and stuff them inside the nest where my chicken was, so now we don't know what's a...
