Hello pdholbrook. Mine are from Cackle Hatchery. Beautiful birds, but not strong layers. They begin about 22 weeks of age. Some pullets lay 5 days a week, some lay once a week, and a few lay, well, wherever they get the urge. I need to get an incubator . So far my hens aren't the best...
Hello 95yj: Too bad we don't live closer to one another. I've got ten beautiful Single Comb Roos U could choose from. I have a hen setting on a dozen eggs now. Hope she can give me some pullets.
These chicks of mine are now 26 wks old. 5 Pullets, 10 Roos. This is a RE-RUN of the previous years' order. 15 chicks each order. Ended up with 5 pullets each. Varmints got all but one of the older flock hens. These pullets began to lay sporadically after 22wks. Now, some days I get 4...
p.s. my lil flock of 16 are now going to bed in their new coop all on their own, after a week of coaxing. They are 7 weeks old now. Although they are in their coop, they haven't decided to hop up on their roosts, but they do eye-ball it, so it's only a matter of time. Maybe next week.
Yup; very 'A' typical of RIR color, texture, size, and shape. Easy to tell between My Buff Orpington eggs. the Orp eggs are generally huge, in comparison, along with different shell texture.
Well; these lil tikes are already 6 weeks old. I moved their brooder out last night, and put them in their new coop. I'll probably be placing them in it for a few days before they will go in on their own.
The rain and wind cooled things down quit a bit, and they're looking for some warmth.
Hello ryman: Welcome to the BRIRThread. Do you have this breed?
Today; my BRIR's are about 2 1/2 weeks old. I let them out of their brooder after lunch. Sixteen of those running here and yon, and I wondered why did I let them out?
And wouldn't you know it. The largest of the brood was the...
Update: Barn Temps are outrageously in the 100 to 108*F. Chicks are doing fine, but I did lose one lil pullet. It was after dark, and I was adjusting the lights for temperature, and fireflies were everywhere. A few landed on the flooring, and she scooped it up, I think another chick got...
Received my order of 15 new chicks from 'Cackle Hatchery' yesterday, Friday 17th, 2015, at 6:50am at the Post Office. There were 17 healthy looking chicks in the box. The Brooder was warm and ready, with fresh water mixed with a tad of black strap molasses. Each chick got their beaks wet...
I don't have a clue. Sorry.
McMurry Hatchery in Ohio, brags about their line of RIR bantams, and I sure was hoping to try them out, but at the time of my order, they didn't have any. Checked later, and they had them posted for only two dates for the entire year. Cackle Hatchery sells them...
My RIR bantam Rooster isn't the man he should be, so I'm ordering another batch of 15 chicks. This time I hope to get some cockerels that will fertilize the eggs. My LiL hens are great setters. They don't panic like my others when you feel under them. I really have grown to like this breed...
Except for this spring, mine generally run free. They do have protection in their run. They do keep excellent watch on the skies. More so than my others. One Alarm shriek from ole Mac, and they scramble for the barn. So far, so good. The most losses I've had from hawks were on my brown...
Rhode Island Red Bantams ~ mine ~are similar in size to a regular small to medium eggs.
My Buff Orpington Bantams produce a good size medium.
The LiL Jap Blacktails produce golf ball size up to a small egg.
Hello BethanyS: I ended up choosing 7 pullets and one roo for my flock. They were laying well up through the winter. Lost one pullet from broken egg insider her. Two pullets have gone broody and hatched 2 chicks each. To my bad, My 2 lil white Jap blacktail roos are the daddy's to all four...
