    Easter Egger club!

I was going with the brief answer, but... I wrote posted in my blog awhile back on the topic: http://104homestead.weebly.com/1/post/2014/02/araucana-ameraucana-or-easter-egger.html. I completely agree with you, but MY PERSONAL thought is that a non-SOP bird (ameraucana or araucana) does not...

yup! EEs are made by combining a blue egg layer with a brown egg layer. Several brown egg breeds have feathered feet.

That is the coolest mohawk ever! Well my broody went nuts last night. I was walking the dog and there was a huge racket in the nest box. I looked in and she was doing this "dance" like a rooster challenging and she was pecking the eggs. I took her off the nest to see if she'd chill out, but she...

She's an australorp/orpington. No problem regarding asking. That's why we all come here, to ask questions and share experiences. Thanks. I'm such a goof. I keep going in there and listening carefully in the hopes of hearing cheeps.

    Easter Egger club!

I wondered about that. Everyone in the flock was pretty amicable up until late fall, then they started getting grouchy with each other. The two that were targeted were the two not laying. One started up again and it seems like all the heat is not directed at the one still not laying. I wondered...

I got to hear the egg song for the first time in forever. With the house all buttoned up for the winter, I can't hear them. It was a beautiful sound.

teryx looks just like my EE in coloring and that little swirl of the neck feathers. Mine hasn't laid in over a month. She's the only one that quit on me this winter. She'll be two in May, so I hope it's not a sign she's done.

if he's starting to crow he's at his full size. Roos May "fill out" a bit after maturity, but what you see is what you get. How small is he?

Generally they will be similarly colored, but recessive genes can always switch things up.

EEs usually lay blue or green (sometimes even pink), but since they are a mixed breed, there is no guarantees. Sometimes the non-dominate egg color gene is the one that turns on.

x2 She's broody (silkies are notorious for it). You can try moving her off the nest repeatedly, but she may get aggressive. A wire bottom crate/cage for a few days will literally cool her off and do the trick. Search the forums for "broody breaker" for more info. Also, if caught early she may...

I saw your post in the coop construction area. I love how it all came out. Glad to hear your flock is settling in nicely.

They need at least 14 hours to stimulate laying. We use a cheap walmart timer.

sadly most birds sold as araucanas and ameraucanas are in fact EEs. But, on the good side of that coin, I have had both and I highly prefer the EEs. They have sweeter personalities, seem more trusting and some lays blue eggs the same shade as the ameraucanas. The only ameruacana I still have is...
