A tough decision, but one I can respect. I had to do the same with a Welsh Harlequin duck I'd hatched, although I'd waited several months and had become *very* attached to her. Most difficult cull ever. :(
Still alive. Lost a lot of blood and fluids. seems perky enough still, though. We shall see. I didn't do much to intervene, just got everything cleaned up (and I'll need to do that again). Not keeping my hopes up.
I'd seen those threads and considered doing that, but since the prognosis...
I don't think any of the remaining eggs are going to hatch, and I have one chick, a blue banty cochin, that appears to maybe have a hole in it's abdomen and internal organs hanging out?? It doesn't look like the umbilical or yolk sac, it looks like liver... It's connected at a different place...
Just had to take some pics, and there's 4-5 more pipped!
Three OEGB and one Cochin bantam (yellow one).
Chewbacca is the one on the bottom, the chimpmunk with a more silvery colour.
I've got two external pips now, though no progress. Second batch has at least one internal pip.
Put a washcloth over the eggs to simulate a hen sitting. Silly? Just don't want any that hatch overnight to go dragging themselves over the other eggs.
I'm down to five OEGB eggs, and unsure how many of the other banty eggs. All hens are Cochin, although some of those could be small ones from my BYM. Plus the aqua-coloured egg I set.
I just made some spicy peanut sauce to serve over noodles, but it can certainly be used as a sauce for Mexican food! The peanut is from South America, so they *might* also have had it in Mexico?
Ingredients were 1/3 cup natural peanut butter, 1 tbs maple syrup (or sweetener of choice), 1/4 tsp...
I candle every few days, because I get nervous. I have to hand turn, and I also give my eggs a once-a-day cooling period, as a hen would, so that's the perfect time to do it.
My recent issues have been because of poor incubator quality. :(
My whole flock is young. started with them last year. So if I get anything, I'm happy.
My OEGB I got at a livestock sale, and I've hatched some of theirs, and had them hatch some too.
