My Nero looked like that as a chick. Gold ended up covering over the gray head feathers which I was a bit sad about but they're just underneath. He's got both silver and gold. There's another person on this site with a boy like that.
Here's Nero! (I've posted like a hundred pictures of him, I'm...
I love all the EE color variety I see out of Cackle Hatchery if you want to do mail order. They have lots of colors and all the ones I've seen have full beards/muffs, pea combs and slate legs.
I'm so sorry you've had such a loss! :( that's terrible.
In all seriousness though, is she warm enough? I have a heated crate at night for any injured and recovering birds. It isn't heated much, it's one of those crate pads that maintains at about 75F. It's on just one side of the crate so the bird can self regulate temperature (cool side vs warm...
No correlation. You might be able to see pointy male saddle feathers barely peeking through the skin at 14 weeks. Only helpful if you have a male and can compare to other females. Give it time, post pictures and we can help you, but not until at least 8 weeks.
Love my EEs personalities. They're the quirkiest and most loveable in the bunch. I'm shelling out for a blue ameraucana this year out of curiosity but EEs have my heart :)
It's kind of like mixing paint. I'm assuming your EE girls lay blue? Since the brown egg color is applied over the blue egg shell, you'll get a base color shell of blue, probably a little lighter blue than what your girls currently lay with the light tan from the Wyandotte applied over the top...
Wow! Moa's brother Nero says hi! :) love that color pattern. I've seen it a few times on roos. always very striking. Good thing they have different beards so we can tell them apart :-) has he molted yet? Nero's tail changed how much was blue and how much was white with his molt, and his beard...
Try switching back to starter/grower with oyster shell offered free choice on the side. Or blend some in to your current feed (no sense in wasting money!). The EEs *really* need the higher protein level yet I found all my birds benefited from it when I switched back. It's all I get now. Makes...
Yup. I had everyone on starter/grower during molt then switched back to layer and it's been nothing but problems. I'm now cutting the layer half and half with grower so I don't waste money, then the next purchase will be back to starter. Calcium deposits on shells, girls stopped laying, one went...
