Been a while since I checked in. Got caught up last night reading. Saw some bad news (sorry t hear) and some good (congrats).
My news is that I received my Porters order this morning. 3 Bourbon red, 2 Oregon Gray,2 Pencilled Palm, 2 Red Slate, 2 Silver Dapple, 2 Tiger Bronze (1 is a little...
15 eggs moved to hatcher this morning.
I am now thinking those yellow poults I posted pic of are possible royal palm from my tri color palm and sweetgrass hens.
I like head cheese but decided it was to much work to make since I just had 1 head from a 250# pig (hanging weight). Plus the new butcher I went to skinned the pig. I opted for soaking in an apple juice, acv mix over night and smoked it for 8 hours with pecan wood. Was still very tasty.
Memphis I have no idea on color. For some reason I did not mark this batch of eggs for what pen they were from. I am just hoping they are not going to be white. If they are then that means my slate tom is carrying a white gene since I have him with a white hen and 2 black hens.
I think almost all my hens are laying now.
Got this today, going to start a line of teacup turkeys...lol (ayam cemani egg, turkey egg, oops turkey egg)
Just for fun a friend of mine made me this keychain
All this mess with virus makes me thankful I live in such a small town. On a normal day I may come in close proximity to only 2-3 people. So it has not affected my daily life. Still go to town for things every couple weeks but am more conscientious of sanitizing hands and items.
I am ready for a break in all the rain. Everything is a muddy mess. Of course catching turkeys this morning was an adventure. I am not sure who got muddier, me or the turkeys...lol.. probably me.
The tree trimming guys showed up a little after 7 to set up to trim limbs away from power lines...
rain showers all night here. supposed to end by noon.
Only babies going to happen here will be of the feathered variety.
Will set some turkey eggs this week. Set 20 Ayam Cemani eggs last night. Have 30 chicken barnyard mix eggs to check and lockdown this Fri.
Hopefully all this panic does not...
Rained here almost all day yesterday. Nothing but a sloppy muddy mess. Hoping this spring is nothing like last year, but not looking hopeful. Seems like rain more days than not. On the plus side, maybe another bumper crop year for mushrooms again.
Went to walmart yesterday and was funny watching customers playing tug of war over a last pack of tp.
Happy to say I have started getting turkey eggs now.
woke up yesterday to 6 inches of heavy wet snow. It tore the plastic poultry netting covering my pens. Had no time to mess with since I had to spend all day clearing roads. Got it all pulled together and semi fixed with zip ties today. Will be changing it out to something a little sturdier...
