I would be careful about closing it up with a glue - if it gets infected underneath, you would have a real mess. Just flush it out and apply the antibiotic ointment and/or spray it with blue kote. I like the Granulex better if you can get it. It needs to heal from inside out. Poor girl! Good luck!

You can put triple antibiotic ointment on it and/or blue lotion spray. I would keep her in a separate cage until she heals so the other chickens won't pick at her. I'm sure it will heal up just fine. I had a guinea who was attacked by something (probably a skunk or coon) when she was sitting...

I agree! Other than being somewhat of a predator alert for the hens, their benefits don't really outweigh their aggravation. I rotate my roosters because I hate keeping them penned up all the time. I try to give them about a week rotation in and out. I can usually have about 2-3 out at a time...

Yes he is crested. All of them are that I have. I will try to get a pic today. The LCO is 12-15 months, he is a big beautiful boy. Will get pics of him too. I'd like $10 to a good home (my main concern). They are pretty, healthy, birds.

Everyone seems to have surplus Rooster's. I do too! Would like to rehome a cute little self-blue Belgian d'uccle, a cream legbar (Jill Rees) and a big, beautiful lemon cuckoo Orpington. Forsyth county. Also have a beautiful young pair of African geese need to find home for.

Message me and I can give you some eggs. We are next door in Stokesdale/Belews Creek. I just hatched some little d'uccles in my classroom and the kids have been fascinated by the whole process.

I was surprised at how few large fowl there were at the show today. It was mostly all bantams -inside the show and for sale outside :( But the saddest part was that there were only maybe 6 or 7 call ducks and that was what we wanted to see and chat about. Does anyone know of people who...

Celeste, I went through the same thing with my girls. I've got 39 hens and got down to just 7-9 eggs per day! I was not sure if it was my feeding methods or what. Yesterday, I got 23 eggs!! I have not gotten that many in months. They have been slowly doing better but I'm happy if I get around...

Thank you Cheryl and dutchbunny! I posted some better pictures of Liza's comb and tail feathers tonight. I hope that will help determine, finally, who had daddy is :) She will not interact with my chickens at all - she just watches them and stays to herself. She is delighted when wild...

Here are the pics I promised of her comb and face. If you didn't see the 2 options for her possible father, you can find them in a post from yesterday. I'm trying to determine if her father is my little porcelain d'uccle or my ameraucana roo. Thanks so much for taking the time to look - I am...

You are right, my mistake. I meant that one of the silkies is partridge and you can see some brown on the back of her neck. I can certainly get a good pic of Liza's comb and the silkies. She does have some dark color in her tail - like a dark grey or light black. In fact, for a while, her poof...

Hi NC chicken friends! I have not been on in a good while because of work and school and chores here. I finished the first part of my master's program and now have my k-6 teaching license. 5 classes to go to finish! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and is looking forward to a happy new...

That is so cool. Each picture I clicked on seemed even more beautiful than the one before. They are just gorgeous. Are they good layers?? Do they lay a bantam sized egg? Their coloring and their combs really make them striking! The history is really interesting, too.

Ditto! I also keep dry feed out for my older hens who were not started on fermented feed (FF). Funny thing is, I have seen them ALL eating the FF. I also ferment scratch grains for them and give it to them every afternoon. They really look forward to it and let me know if I'm late in getting...
