At 8 weeks they should be fully feathered. And they should be fine, in my opinion. There are 17 of them, they should be able to snuggle for warmth as well.
Anyone near Madison/Greene/Charlottesville/Culpeper have hatching eggs they can spare? I'm looking for b/b/s Silkies, Sizzles, Showgirls, black La Fleche or Call Duck eggs.
If anyone happens to have any of those, please PM me with details/pics of your breeding flock (would prefer eggs from SQ/BQ...
My last hatchery order came in Feb. I brooded them outside in a rabbit hutch from the start and they were perfectly fine under their 100w bulb. They feathered out VERY quickly in the cool temps. Since then, I don't brood in the house anymore. Anyway, keep a thermometer under the heat lamp, as...
Someone is *supposed* to come and get them this evening. I went ahead and put them on Craigslist, but if you've ever dealt with CL, then you know how that can go...if it falls thru I'll definitely let you know :)
If anyone near Charlottesville/Madison/Greene/Harrisonburg is looking for Sizzles, I have 7 chicks from my project I need to find homes for. I'll be happy to give them to a fellow BYC member. I'll be moving in the near future, so I need to reduce my flock :/
^ Here's an older pullet I'm hanging...
This is really worrying. About a month and a half or two months ago (been really busy, I've lost track of time) I bought some Silkies from a local swap, got them home and realized one was sneezing. The next day they were all sneezing...and absolutely infested with mites AND lice. Thank goodness...
Aw, I wish I were closer to Roanoke. The swap is probably much bigger there! My mom lives there, I'll have to schedule my next visit around a chicken swap ;)
Hello neighbor :D I'm in Greene, right on the Greene/Madison line. Enjoy your new place, our neck of the woods is a beautiful/wonderful place to live!

I'm a clencher when I'm nervous (or cold) too. We went on a camping trip one year. The days were nice and warm so I didn't pack appropriately, the nights were freezing. That one weekend gave me sore jaws for the following week. Oragel was my bestest frand! It did go away on its own.
I'm guessing...
That rooster sure looks mottled to me, splash would be the opposite (blue on white, not white on blue). I don't do mottled birds, but don't most breeders breed mottled to mottled? You could keep him with the girl you have, unless you've already got a better mottled boy.....did you ask on the...
Oh, I'd love to have her!!! She could live with my Silkies :) I don't come that way often though :( How far are you from Roanoke? My mom lives there and she'll be coming to my house tomorrow... PM me if you'd like! Nikki
I went out this morning to find my plastic gallon size waterers (the kind with the red base that screws on the bottom) busted from ice :barnie So I took a couple if my metal mixing bowls out for them to use until it warms up. I'll be so glad when Spring gets here!!!

You're not alone. My daffodils and hostas have started coming up, and with all this rain my grass is starting to turn green again. This past weekend when the weather was warm we had tons of honey bees and mosquitoes!!!

Also, while I'm here :D Would anyone close to Madison/Ruckersville/C'ville be interested in doing an egg swap? I have some nice b/b/s Silkies (there are a couple of blue creams in there too), and I'd really like to add a few nice frizzled Cochin bantams to their little flock! Thanks!
Nikki

riane'smimi, would you happen to have any Silkies for sale? I'm thinking about starting another small flock of them. I live in Greene County, so I'm very close
