Purchased our weed screen finally! Also got baby cukes and bell pepper starts to put in. Today's garden work, so leveling the ground and staking the screening is priority. Then we'll plant the starts and put in our crops. Black corn this year, super hype! This year I'm trying potato towers...

Yesterday we finally got the field tilled! Today before we go to the OB for our second ultrasound we're stopping by the feed store for weed sheeting and stakes, and we might pick up some bell peppers and cucumbers since I've always had issues growing those from seed.

Just started my pepper seeds. Got red bell peppers, jalapenos, Thai chilies, and Romanian Rainbow peppers going. In two weeks we're going to go buy our weed sheeting for the plot. The plan is to till with all the dead leaves I've been collecting and composting, then cover with the sheeting until...

Garden planning is in full swing. Changing up the layout and doing new stuff this year, hopefully should have the finalized plan done by the end of the week!

My family is small (only two people but I also feed six chickens with fodder) and we have a plot about 27X18 ft. It's more land than we end up using but I do really intensive gardening and I also grow up trellises and forms to save space.

Howdy folks! We're back from the US finally. I raked up a bunch of leaves before we left for our compost heap and they're due for a turn; hopefully they break down into sweet sweet compost for the garden this spring. Garden planning time too, I'm phasing out some crops and introducing new...

Today is potato digging day. I haven't had a chance to dig them up, but after work there's plenty of time to do so. Next year I'm trying potato towers though, it's easier from what I hear.

We have two pumpkins, they're real dark green on the vine and should be ready by Halloween. Both are already the size of most grocery store pumpkins here, they'll be huge when they finish. Corn is kinda wimpy yield this year, but next year will be better since Husband and I will be...

My pumpkins have taken off and are making their way across the garden. I'm not messing with them, I like seeing the vines crawling over everything.

x2!!! No tomatoes or peppers this year, they never got going. Got ONE head of lettuce. Garlic won't stop growing, and the onions took off this year. Let me know how that works out! We're doing an A-Frame for our peas and beans next year.

Not an easy task here. I don't think we even have lizards, it's too cold for them. Plus these are monster-size French slugs. I'm talking four inches long here! Luckily there's only like four I've seen, so we just pick them off the plant and kill them normally.

I'm back from my vacation in Texas! Came back to the weeds blanketing the yard again. They're not as huge as they were though, which is a plus. My pumpkins have female and male flowers, but slugs are eating them! I put out cornmeal as I heard somewhere that slugs like to eat it but it kills...

You and me both, dude. I'm finally finding potatoes after weeding by hand over five or six days. In other news... Okay...the lettuce MIGHT be a little big...

It's mostly keeping the nettles in their places. I have an area where I don't ever touch, and it's all wild stinging nettle and thistles right now. Pretty sweet potato!

Cardboard and newspaper are not easily found here. The soil is almost 80% clay in our area, so square-foot box materials are readiy available and often cheaper than amending the soil. Plus I have bad hips, knees, and ankles so raised beds are easier on me. As for spraying, we want to be...

So the plan for this year's overwintering is to spray everything with an organic weed killer, lay down weed sheeting, and then build some boxes on top with mulch in-between. Would make getting carrots out from the clay much easier, better loam and all that.

My blauwschokkers have blooms! I'm excited for these, peas are one of my favorites and this variety is supposed to have a bright purple pod. Three weeks until vacation, going to probably weed everything when I get over this random bug in a week.
