Awwwwww. I'm so sorry about Edie. I still have "Edie's Sister" and she has the quirkiest personality. I haven't been on this thread in months and this was the first post I read.

Hi, I'm so far behind, I'll never catch up but also, I can't answer your question either. When I was curious about a disease in our area, (about turkeys) I called our county Cooperative Extension, Farm and Ag division. They were more than happy to answer all my questions without being nosy...

Hello there, wasn't going to comment but after reading it again I just want to say. I love reading all the posts from all of you. Personal or not. If I don't comment doesn't mean I'm not interested. Sometimes I'm too busy, tired or just don't have a comment. Hang in there. sue BTW keep...

Wondering if vitamins are the problem then maybe the whole flock would benefit. Worth a try. Thanks. She is quite pretty. Armorfirelady, isn't it amazing how difficult it is to give away chickens? Next year, try hatching something of value or chickens/ducks/turkeys that you could sell as...

Armorfirelady, I think about you often. Hopefully, you are and stay safe. Say hi to your Mom for me! I haven't followed BYC very closely so I didn't read whether or not you found homes for your extra hatchlings. Just curious. I know the answer to my question but here goes. I had a sneaky...

When we are plagued with mites I do use the oil on the roosts and sprinkle wood ash over the oil and rub (my roosts are quite smooth). I sometimes just use cooking oil, anything that can smother. Unfortunately, we have mites again (now 3 yrs later) and I have over 60 birds instead of 15. It's...

My limited experience has shown that my Silkies are the best. Very protective, a great teacher and were able to raise many right along with the rest of the flock. I never worried. Next came my EE's. they were great mom's. maybe not the best at teaching the young un's to get along with the...

Usually the grays' neck and head feathers turn dark and the rest stay gray. I have a lot of grays this year. I'll try to take pics tomorrow. My son has my computer but I'll try with this iPad.

I:m so sorry. We've had 3 floodings this year but have been so lucky. My beautiful little creek is so serene most of the time but someplace upstream things are clogged and caused it to run completely around our house in the last storm. I saw the storms on tv yesterday. We're due later...

I have a smallish area that we just made and have 3 hens and their babies in there. Because we've seen hawks we put the netting (like in your photo) over top. I've been weeding the garden and have always thrown the weeds into their run as there isn't really any grass. Guess how any times I've...

I think I could easliy become addicted to SFH. I like diversity in colors in my flock :)  While I would be sad if something got the chicks I still believe the strongest & smartest survive.  The Mom's still keep an eye on them just from a distance. And those babies are fast & surprisingly while...

I'm so many posts behind but want to say how cute every ones babies (and adults) are. My family thinks I'm nuts for loving to look at poultry pictures. I'm always making them look.

Your friend did indeed seem extremely nice. I wonder why I ever incubate chicks when it is so easy letting Mom's do it. Here are sister hens to yours with their babies, cousins to yours (I think) They both sat on the eggs the whole time. Just like yours, some are pure BCM and some are EE...

This is all so gross and wasn't going to mention it but our back yard is fenced in to dogs and chickens (about a half acre or so). I never notice dog poop or chicken poop. The chickens apparently eat after the dogs and the dogs eat after the chickens. Ewwwwwwww.
