I know of one in Falcon and one Pueblo. They are both in the parking lot/side field of a feed store. It's not limited to birds, you can bring any farm related items. If you want to sell you just show up and park in the vendor area. You don't have to sign up beforehand or pay anything. They...

I'm no lawyer and this isn't legal advice, but I took that to mean that the producer can't sell meat/eggs from birds that haven't been raised on their property. Like they can't buy a bunch of birds on craigslist, slaughter them, and then sell the meat.

I'd love to see pictures of the Adobe cob when you're done. I've seen videos and pictures of it being used in different housing structures but never in a coop. Sounds interesting. I use the deep liter method too. It's great. I like that it's pretty maintenance free and my fields and garden...

That's an interesting set-up. I would make sure you have something waterproof on the floor and going partially up the side to protect the wood from duck mess. Even if you don't have water in the coop, they will introduce a lot of moisture to the coop when they go in after bathing and from their...

It would be very unusual for a pullet to have that bright of a comb and such large waddles at this age. The unevenness of the lacing on the wings is also a sign it's a cockerel. Around 12 weeks, cockerels will start to get the male specific feathers, i.e. pointy hackle and saddle feathers...

Welcome! You might try the Marian House soup kitchen in downtown Colorado Springs. If they can't give the eggs out they may be able use them in their meals. They always have some kind of soup but also make regular dishes for their daily meal.

If she's been sitting for 22 days, I wouldn't let her sit another 21. It wouldn't be good for her. At this point, I'd either try young chicks or try to break her broodiness. I've had great success with getting broody chicken hens to take chicks as old as a week.

You may want to try the Pueblo West Farmers Swap Facebook group. Though I think you should be prepared. Cockerels are hard to rehome, especially if you want a home only and aren't willing to sell to someone for food. Good luck.

Aww Uzi, so sorry to hear you aren't doing well. Wish I could be of help but I don't have the facilities to house more birds. The only thing I could think of is searching for a farm sanctuary.

If you have rotting wood you might look into the hugelkultur method of gardening. I've never tried to grow raspberries and I have a bit of a black thumb so I wouldn't be very helpful anyway. I do know that goats like to eat raspberry plants, not sure how useful that info is to you. :lau

Yeah, I don't know if I'd eat them after a year, but I think I could do 6 months. I plan to freeze some too just in case it doesn't work out. Of course I always plan to do that and forget while I still have eggs. :he

This year I'm going to try to preserve my eggs in limewater. Duck eggs are the best for baking but I never have any during the holiday season. Supposedly they are good for up to a year in limewater.

I think you'd have a hard time finding any this time of year. My area has a Facebook group called Colorado Country Critters. It's mostly the Falcon and surrounding area but sometimes there are listings from further North. I've seen button quail on there before but not for many months. There...

Driving is a lot of fun! Butters, the pony, seems to really enjoy it, too. She always gets excited when she sees me pulling the cart out.

@2ndTink she can try the Facebook group Colorado Country Critters. It was created for the swap that happens at the Big R in Falcon, but lots of folks post animals for sale that aren't going to the swap. Members are from a pretty large area, the Springs included. I haven't been on BYC much in...

I've had better success at lower humidity. I try to keep it around 35% during incubation and raise it to 60% at lockdown. For some reason the blue and green eggs are harder. Local eggs from a flock that's been at altitude for a few generations are better. Their eggs will start to change...

Hey everyone, it's been a while. :) To the newcomers, "Welcome to the CO thread!" I didn't get much snow here, maybe a few inches. We were in the mountains last weekend getting our Christmas tree, near Fairplay. I got my truck stuck in the snow but luckily managed to get myself unstuck. :lol...

I was there and sold all three 7-month old pullets I really wanted to sell. They all went to the same lady. At first she was only interested in 2 of them. But right as she was looking at them the third pullet laid an egg and the lady suddenly decided to buy all 3. I think she thought the third...

How fun. I'm not into knitting but I have done some felting. Wool is so nice and fluffy. Do they make good lambs for meat? I'm thinking of getting 2-3 lambs this year to "mow" my land and put into the freezer at the end of the season. I've mostly been looking at hair breeds. Read that they grow...

Never heard of those (not like I know that much though) so I looked them up. They're cute. What do you do with the wool?
