What did you do in the garden today?

My headaches virtually always last 4 days, but I can’t remember ever having one this bad. Thanks for the good wishes. I just found some serious meds left over from surgery. Trying one of those.

I’m on Day 2 of a particularly nasty migraine. Pain and nausea, 2 days in bed. Thank goodness for meds.

What did you do in the garden today?

I am concerned about the dishwasher canning method. Has the cook taken the temp inside his dishwasher? We know so much more than we used to about food safety. The acid level of this tomato or that, the temperature at which botulinum is killed, etc. Just because it worked for our grandmothers...

What did you do in the garden today?

And good kids are such a pleasure! I only had one, but she was easy to raise. I got lucky! I rarely had to correct her and I can’t even remember ever punishing her. She is a delight to this day, and her sweet little daughter is, too! I took photos in the garden today. Maybe I can get a...

What did you do in the garden today?

I still can't get over you starting a garden now. Where I live, we can only plant at one time of year, and it's a pretty short growing season, at that! Grumpy department: I wanted to order some of the blackberry bushes on sale from Park Seed - they sent me an email. They were rated down to...

What did you do in the garden today?

I had potatoes in a container looking very poorly. I decided to dump it and salvage what I could. Apparently I had planted white potatoes and red ones in the same container. The white ones were rotting, and the red ones were still producing! Bummer. I harvested all the red ones, buried the...

What did you do in the garden today?

I’ve mulched with wood chips. The other day I was out in the strawberries pulling some mulch aside so a couple of runners have a place to root! (I planted bare root berries and over half didn’t make it.) Otherwise, the soil stays damp, and occasionally I wish for a few weeds so I would have...

What did you do in the garden today?

How does that work for you? I don’t own a canner now, and buying a water bath canner seems silly since I will eventually want a pressure canner. But I read that the pressure canner can get so hot that a glass stovetop can break! So barring a new stove, I’m dehydrating. I have been thinking...

Does it freeze in the winter? Can you grow citrus? Growing citrus is just a Dream here in New England!

What did you do in the garden today?

I harvested this morning and brought in a huge head of broccoli and three good-sized zucchini. I dehydrated most of that, and then fermented pickles with zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, cloves of garlic, dill, and a bit of red pepper. SO good! plus it gets the harvest in and not spoiling...

What did you do in the garden today?

Potato question: I'm growing potatoes for the first time. They haven't bloomed, and are looking a bit yellowed With our infrequent but intense deluges, they go from too wet to too dry in their containers; I'm trying to keep them even. There are little red potatoes peeking above the soil...

What did you do in the garden today?

Wow. When life seems difficult, I sometimes remind myself that people live where there are scorpions or plentiful poisonous snakes. Now I have to consider living with Buffalo burr! We did, though, take out an entire hillside of honey locust brush last summer. Dried and wound into small circles...

What did you do in the garden today?

I'm glad you are taking on evil in the pasture! Even though I don't know what a weed popper is (same as a weed whacker? string trimmer?) or what Buffalo burr is. We have plenty of weeds in New England, but. . . Burdock?
