The kids and I went out and did yardwork today, since it is supposed to be the coolest day this week, at 87. We are traveling mext week to see family out of state (just me and the kids), so I want to get the yard stuff done before we go. We ate our first cucumber from our container garden. It...
The neighbors seemed to take it in stride. My husband has been seriously looking into getting bees, so we have been researching bee friendly products. I would love to have one or two hives near our fruit trees.
Ooh, I would be mad, too, if it was a neighbors cat. I can't too angry at our own cat, especially when the poor birds were doing it to themselves.
The bees were a mystery. I sure hope it wasn't chemical spraying because that might put the fault on us, although we were super careful. We use a...
I have been busy today! We finally got a cloudy day, which makes the 90 degrees not feel so miserable. I have been wanting to give the chickens a "safe" place to run around during the day. We used to let them out to roam the yard, but they decided their favorite place was in the road in front of...
My father in law travels to Japan a lot for work, and he was telling us about these. The square watermelons are really popular there. They do grow them in molds, and they have other shapes as well. I wonder how it affects the rind to fruit meat ratio?
That is awesome! Our neighbors raise honeybees, but all theirs died this year, and they have no idea why. :(
We have a lot of bats here, and love to watch them at night. Last year I put hummingbird feeders out at the back and front, but we ended up taking them down because they fought so much...
I have never really been afraid of spiders...prefer them to stay outdoors, but I leave them be. With black widows or brown recluses, the fear is there, mostly because I have kids and I don't want them to get hurt.
I wish they would communicate without having tons of babies near my house. :barnie It wouldn't bother me if I knew they were harmless spiders, but considering the webs look like black widow webs, I don't want them!
This is the second year of this. It makes me wonder if my garden is doomed...
I got out early this morning, around 7 a.m. and cleaned out my garden.
I have no idea why this keeps happening but I lost almost my entire gardent to spiders. It just happened in the last day and a half. I went out yesterday evening and saw webs all over most of the plants, with tiny baby...
I am going to look up the gaiters!
When I was a kid in rural Missouri, my siblings and I would tuck our socks into jeans and put duct tape around the ankles when blackberry picking. The whole area was full of the tiny ticks that you couldn't see, but they would be in patches, so you would...
I usually only spray my shoes and legs (with pants). We were going to walk through tall weeds so I sprayed my shirt front and back. My mistake was that I had short sleeves and the spray misted onto my arms and neck. The odd thing is that I had researched picaridin before buying it and there was...
It was Deep Woods with Picaridin. It is funny, because I bought that one because picaridin is not supposed to cause health concerns like deet. I had never used it before, and will not be using it again!
The rash is almost gone. I am sure now that it was an allergic reaction to the bug spray, as the rash was only where the spray touched my skin and did not spread past that. It is still a little itchy but benedryl helps a lot now.
I have a couple cucumbers almost ready to pick!
