What did you do in the garden today?

What's a miracle fruit tree? I have a bottle of green tea and miracle fruit but I thought the producers just didn't want to tell me what is in the bottle.

What did you do in the garden today?

In the garden today i mostly continued plugging along on the squash vine borer, a leaf node at a time. Along the way I saw 2 praying mantises (mantids?)! One brown and this green one. And this squash is pretty fun. I don't know how I wound up with a turban squash, i guess it's from the...

What did you do in the garden today?

I was down to only butternut squash and it was going pretty well. I learned you can use them as summer squash, and they're delish. I just got a little crazy this year and bought a summer squash at the store. Now the borers are all over again

What did you do in the garden today?

Oh, man, I know it does! And they are well fed and beautiful around here. The only way they legally get killed in my neighborhood is when cars run into them. But if coronavirus gets the world so out of whack that food disappears, I'm sure the deer will get eaten right up.

What did you do in the garden today?

Here is my arch nemesis of the decade: squash vine borers. Just in case anyone doesnt know them yet and wonder why their squash wilt (see photo), rot, and die.... here are the grubs that eat the plants' hearts. And the eggs. And the frass pile at their entry hole. They generally go towards...

What did you do in the garden today?

When I lived in NC and was po', I learned to make fish cakes. Zucchini fritters plus a can of mackerel in it. mash the fish with a fork. They're great. Even my picky son loves them. Shredded zucchini, egg, salt, flour, mackerel. Black Pepper, garlic, onion if you have them and want to add...

What did you do in the garden today?

Yesterday I cut out all the canes that just fruited on the raspberry plants. I think my hen was feeling pretty isolated behind them. We can see her again now. It's nice. My ongoing kiwi experiment has some fruit that actually set and are growing this year. It's been pretty lame. It's...

What did you do in the garden today?

Success stories, too! Not all gloom. The canby raspberry patch got a hard cull last year. Only plants with good flavor got to stay. Our crop was a lot smaller this year, but much better flavor! We're very happy. And my one triple crown thornless blackberry plant has multiplied and I have...
