I tend to agree, I try to buy local stuff produced on farms that minimize chemicals and would garden again if I had the time to put into it. I have the land and we have a decent growing season here and we are scoured by fresh Pacific ocean air frequently enough to not worry about pollution too...
Genetic mutations or sports are not hybrids. Natural or artificial GMO are the same whether done in a lab in weeks or done naturally over many years.
I am not a geneticist but from what I have read there is no scientific difference.http://academic.kellogg.edu/herbrandsonc/bio111/propagation.htm
Don't be too hasty, diseases cycle and usually come back with a vengeance. Humans as a species need diseases in order to build resistence. These diseases we have today were not combatted the way they were 60 years ago and are showing a trend in occurence and tenacity.
Stress and it's effect...
That is probably for political reason.
I am a little concerned that the beef producers are selling about half thier stock due to the drought and coupled with 400 a ton feed costs. I think this year we may be importing more grain or already are.
Either way the cost will go up at the feed...
I read that... another site I went to said we import about 200 million tons of corn also... which seems crazy.
My feed guy may have meant here on the west coast which is nowhere near what they use in the midwest. I will ask him where he heard that at because I am reading mixed reports...

I have not read all the posts but one thing to keep in mind is that processed pelleted feed contains very little real corn. It is mostly distilled mash from alcohol production. Most of our corn is exported and used in fuel. Most feed corn is from south america. FYI according to my feed supplier.
