    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Did you not say you kick started the ferment with UP/ACV if so the little buggers that make vinegar eat the alcohol faster than the yeast can make it. Plus it does not matter what grain you use or if you use several grains If it does not contain the vinegar makers it makes alcohol because that...

I know you had that conversation too but could not find it. I thought someone else started the thread though. Did you use the oregano oil straight. How was it given. Lacy could you possibly send this to me.

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Ya it's good stuff. If a cow, pig, sheep, goat, dog whatever got in infection in a wound a big glob of ichthammol was put on and an old rag tied around it and a few days later all was good. I got a couple infection at times and the same was done to me. Smells terrible and we wore it to school...

Agree. I did use corid once though I received a shipment of BCM's that had coccidiosis that I paid $175 for and did not want to take the chance. They were suppose to be day old's but ranged from 1 week to 3 maybe 4 weeks old. Two of them had blood is their stool and looked bad. Some others did...

Yes you could cover the feeders with wire. If it soaked up all the water you should have put in more water in.

Mostly I was talking about the oregano as an antibiotic. Why would we need to give antibiotics on a daily basis to build a good immune system. Same with pumpkin seeds why would one worm on a daily basis. That is what the conversation was about giving oregano on a daily basis. I know you don't...

This is what my thoughts were also. Why use it if not needed. Might be good to keep in the medicine cabinet and give if they just look down and you want to perk them up. I am ordering seeds. Going to plan oregano and mint. Use to have a lot of mint growing wild but the numbers are decreasing...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I don't remember where I read it at. The first post of this thread says Quote by Beekissed: "Fermenting your grains is supposed to increase your protein by 12%, increase the absorption of your feed nutrients" unquote So I looked a long time since this got to be a controversial subject and did...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

My take on this after reading for months about fermenting feed is that it raises the protein absorption by 12% not the protein value. So if you are feeding 16% feed and the chickens absorb 75% of that protein if you ferment it they will now absorb 87% of that same 16%.

Grit should always be offered free choice as should oyster. No need for forcing it by putting in feed they will take it when needed.

I don't understand this fascination with holes in the feeder. My chickens love the juice as much as the ff feed. In fact I have started adding a little extra water to my carry out bucket so that they get a good drink of it while eating. It got to 10 degrees Fahrenheit this week and nothing froze...

Don't know if it was from my post 4 weeks ago that you got the idea. Just wanted to say that is the image that I was going for in that post. Except I do not put drainage in mine the chickens eat and drink all. Below is the original post. I like the way yours came out. These are so easy to build...
