Yes I am planning on building their coop with branch roosts this weekend. Although they are my pets first and foremost Im worried that this may not be good for them. I will keep you updated :)

Thank you MaryJanet! Im wondering if its mainly because at the moment they cant roost? Time will tell. Also if they are hiding their eggs in the garden then I'd say my puppies are finding them and eating them before I do. However Ive seen no evidence of empty shells anywhere...

I certainly will keep an eye on her. Im thinking now after reading your other thread she may have just been bossing the others around and took it too far. I hope thats the case anyway:p

Thank you so much for your reply Teila! I have had a look at your other thread and what you described sounds just what happened to Sybil last night. When I put her into the cage she went straight for the food and water so she has not lost her appetite. I checked on her several times before I...

Good morning All, Has anyone experienced a respitory infection in thier chooks? One of my girls was 'singing' last night but seemed to be struggling to get her voice to work. I picked her up and I could hear her wheezing. She spent the night in 'hospital' aka the laundry in a comfy bed and she...

Thank you Anniebee, yes they are funny creatures aren't they! The more I read these all these posts, the more I realise that chickens really are all so different. Whether it be due to their breed, their upbringing or just some mystery that we humans are yet to discover:) I saturated an area...

Ewwww 46!!! Thats nasty! Im sorry to hear of your loss, was she old? I will put the sprinkler on shortly, at least they will have the option of going under it or not. It will also make the ground cool for them. Just gave them some watermelon, they thought all their Christmas's had come at...

Merry Christmas All Soooooo, what are we all doing to keep our chickies cool in this heat? My girls have lots of shade, plenty of dirt to dust bath and lay down in, have a wadding pool (in case they feel like a dip lol) and a pergola to shelter under. I thought about putting a sprinkler on...

No crusty stuff on their ears thank goodness:) To be honest Im probably looking at the wrong part of the chickens head LOL But its good to know that it all seems normal:) Oh thats funny that you have to peel the sunflower seeds for them. They sure do sound like little 'madam's, but they...

Hello Fancychooklady The are Light Sussex Hens (well 3 of them could possibly be Columbian Rocks due to their leg colour). I have only seen the earlobes go white a couple of times. They are nice and red most of the time.
