Hi everyone,
its been a while so thought I would just pop in and say hello , and just for fun here's a video of what it looks like letting our 8 week olds out in the morning, crazy bunch of chooks lol
don't stress @OrangeGrove we had a terrible hatch our first 2 attempts, also thanks too Eskom , our last hatch we ended up with 130 fuzz balls out of 150 eggs , it will come lol, o by the way , if anyone is interested I have 120 koekoeks at 4.5 weeks old lol
o ok, I just made those out of polystyrene , but we buy chicken egg trays from a local packaging company , they sell pretty much anything like cups and boxes and plastic knives and forks etc , works out too about R1.97 for a box for a dozen eggs.
So just for interest sake , here is a pic of an egg tray I made for our quail eggs , works out to about R1.60 packaging for 18 eggs which I thought was pretty good.
Heritagechickens.co.za has Orpington but I am waiting till budgies2bantams gets some , they have a breeding group and are cheaper so I'm waiting till they hatch some.
wow that's impressive , felt like forever when it took our koekoeks 28 weeks to start laying.
the Quail on the other hand take 4-6 weeks, our new ones are already dropping eggs all over the place.
that's awesome , silly mongoose, is it digging under your fence?
we trying to get some RIR now , hopefully in about 2 weeks , can't keep up with building the runs we need haha, we will also have silkies soon, they busy growing and will pick then up also inabout 2 weeks, looks like we going to...
thanks @Nanna34 , I think we will have to lol, we have about 230 chicks now so we switching of the incubator for now, our worker walked out on us and went back to Zimbabwe without saying anything so we have been stressing, had to ask our neighbour to look after the chickens till we got the...

We have had a few problems as well like a rat that killed a few chicks , hammy (the bush pig) has been digging up all over and breaking fences , but we still have tons of broody hens sitting on eggs an a whole lot more that are busy hatching again today so busy busy lol
hehe , we do the same , we have made one of our old outside rooms a brooding room, each hen now gets her own little division with food and water in it to sit on her eggs , we seem to have a never ending supply of broody hens at the moment, one hen hatches a few chicks and the next day we have 5...
