I'm so sorry! I lost one yesterday and it was horrible. I lost Winniedot, the one that hatched the two chicks and was such a great mother. I had to go catch the two chicks, and they're practically feral. Poor babies were looking everywhere for their mom at bedtime. :(
Hello beautiful chicken people! I haven't seen you guys in ages. I miss you tons. @NanaKat I have some gorgeous irises this year! Every time I see them I think of you.
Just logged on to let people know that the Ten and Two feed store in Skiatook just recently changed hands, and the new...
I was trying to figure out how to make concrete work, but couldn't figure out the ground clearance on it. How did you get it close enough to the ground?
Do you guys have any suggestions for fence that can be built over an area where I can't use fenceposts? I have a lot of sandstone in that area and can't drive in a tpost.
Dot is hanging in there, but her eye is still a horrible mess. Two days ago I saw the first sign of necrosis setting in, and she's getting a pus pocket. I took the final step you suggested and flushed with oxine. Today the pocket is bigger, but she's perching on the edge of her tub, so she...
Oh no, not Hercule! I'm so sorry Coral. Great big hugs! I know he was a special boy. :(
Does this look like boy peas? It does to me, and I'm terribly disappointed if it is.
No cheesy exudates I can see, just painful red swelling. She had some yellowish pus early on, then some clear tears, and now there's no secretions. I have Duramycin, which is tetracycline hydrochloride, and I just started her on it. Do you think it might work? I'll try the oxine, because at this...
I have a little girl who desperately needs help. She started out with a sinus infection when the rains first started. Another girl got swollen eyes and a snotty nose at the same time, and I treated them both with Tylan and the other pullet got over it. This girl had it bad in both eyes, and...
Thank you to everybody for your kind condolences. I know many of you understand. We go through losses, but there's always that one that is beyond special.
Coral, Bumpers will always be with me more than spiritually thanks to you. She rides everywhere with me in the car. I won't be taking...
Yesterday I found my Bumpers in one of the nest boxes. She never fully recovered from her last illness, and I think all the rain was just too hard on her. I've cried all night, and I'm starting again as I type this. I don't know how I'm going to do without her. It's so hard to believe...
Thanks tons! I had a couple that looked like that as new hatches, so I have hope! The main one I'm eyeing now is white on the bottom, black on the top, but has the faintest little pale dots on the head and shoulders. Wouldn't it be nice to have "plumage progression" charts for breeds? And what...
I'm thinking at least one of mine is a mottled, which is what I was wanting. I'd be tempted to part with most of them just because I don't need a bunch of hugely fluffy lovechickies that I'll just get attached to, but if the mottling doesn't come in until later that would be disappointing...
Check his cat food. If his food has fish meal in it, find him something else. Fish meal is a common cause of bladder and kidney problems in cats, and if your cat doesn't tolerate it, it can lead to much worse problems.
My chicks from that batch of Coweta eggs are getting pretty big. I have a couple of lavenders, some blacks, what looks like a couple of mottled, and then I have a couple that are colored like these two. The blacker one... is that chocolate? And what is that buff pattern?
