Quote: If you had put the styrofoam container in the fridge you would have been ok. I have an idea on how you can make sure you get all the worms...you could bring a chicken/chick into the house with one of those diaper things on. They will clean it up really good for you. Sorry about...

Well, I was unsuccessful transfering the beetles to new substrate to get rid of the mites. Well, it seems that the beetles are ok in the container I have them in, but the substrate for the eggs, in 2 separate containers, regrew mites even after I froze the oatmeal and oat bran for several days...

Quote: Did you talk with Amy? Gallo del Cielo has also dealt with mites and other mealie farm problems in the past. The colony can live with the mites, but can you? It won't hurt them. Both Amy and Gallo ended up dumping the infested bin. If you decide to do that, just start feeding the...

Quote: The density refers to the number of larvae per unit volume. For example, 2 mealworms/cup of wheat bran would experience a lower density than would 100 mealworms/cup of wheat bran. Through social interactions and chemical cues, the larvae gain information about how many others there...

Quote: They'll most likely end up being black unless the density of your larvae is very low. It is the density that the larvae experience over their development which determines investment in immune defenses (and previous encounters with infectious agents). I'm not understanding what you...

Quote: I actually think there are more than one molts in one day. I would pick out all my beetles out of the pupa bucket at night and I would find a bunch of beetles the next morning, some are the lightest color, some are brown...don't remember if I got a black one out of the bucket that quick.

I'm glad I got into the wormfarming project. It's turning out to be much more interesting than I thought it would be. I'm excited about the opportunity of giving my girls huge handfuls of worms each and every day. Hopefully, by the time Sept. rolls around, I'll have oodles of wormies and...

I have a couple hundred pupa in my bucket and have been looking into my pupa bucket multiple times a day to pull out beetles. I looked last night and pulled them all out and this morning, I had about 25+ beetles I pulled out. That was a big jump to the less than 10 each morning previously.
